308,508. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 9, 1928. Electromagnets; insulation. - A coil of wire insulated with lacquer is further insulated by means of a lacquer containing cellulose derivatives plasticizers, and solvents which only slowly attack the original lacquer coating. This lacquer may be applied to the wire and the coil wound while it is yet damp, or the wound oil may be impregnated with the liquid lacquer and dried. Two suitable lacquers are described, one is composed of nitrocellulose or cellulose carboxylate dissolved in alcohol, ethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether, butanal, tricresyl phosphate and an artificial resin prepared by the polymerization of vinyl alcohol. The other contains cellulose ethyl ether, cumarone resin, phthalic di-ethyl ester, benzene, ethyl alcohol, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether and butyl alcohol. Colouring matters may also be added.
