Rollers and roller heads.-In speed frames, ring frames, and mules six pairs of rollers A, A' - - D, D' are employed to effect three consecutive drafts, viz., a small preliminary draft. say of from 1.05 to 1.20, between the rollers C, C<1> and D, D<1> which serves to remove the effect of the twist in the roving, a draft of from 2 to 8 between the rollers C, C<1> and B, B<1>, and to 20 or even 25 between the rollers B, B<1> and A, A<1> the rollers a, a<1>, b, b<1> serving as auxiliary lightly weighted rollers which allow the longer fibres to slip. The distance between the rollers D, D<1> and C, C<1> is greater than the length of the longest fibres and may be adjustable, the distance between the drawing-rollers C, C' and B, B<1> and the drawing-rollers B, B<1> and A, A' is adjustable in accordance with the length of the longest fibres, and the distance between the rollers A, A' and a, a', and the rollers B, B<1> and b, b' is invariable and is made as small as possible. The rollers a', b' may be smooth, fluted or provided with peripheral grooves, and their diameters should be as great as possible consistent with the necessary weight. The speeds of the rollers a, a<1> and b, b<1> are the same as those of the rollers B, B<1> and C, C' respectively. Examples are given of suitable dimensions, weights, and setting of the rollers. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises drawing apparatus with five and from seven to twelve pairs of rollers comprising drawing-rollers proper and auxiliary rollers. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
