Abstract

306,122. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges. Feb. 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 304,192. Coating wires. - The process claimed in the parent Specification is modified by causing the insulating material to be applied to the wire in the form of overlapping layers, this being effected by making the wire travel slowly past one or more nozzles; the wire and the nozzle may rotate with respect to each other at high speed. As shown in the diagram, the wire 1 is drawn slowly past two nozzles 3, 4 carried on a ring 2 and rotating at high speed about the axis of the wire. The wire is previously drawn through liquid air in a container 5. The resulting coatings of insulating material form overlapping ribbons wound helically around the wire. By regulating the width of the deposit, the travel of the wire and the speed of rotation of the nozzles, the number of coatings may be varied. Each nozzle may supply the same or different insulating material one of which may be a medium or badly conducting material. The wire may be drawn past several successive nozzles or sets of nozzles.
