Abstract
463,290. Cleaning wire. KENKYUJO, Z. H. R. March 11, 1936, No. 7392. Convention date, March 12, 1935. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups VIII and XXIII] In making a coated insulated wire, it is cleaned before coating by a band or bands or cord fed in a direction opposite or at right-angles to the movement of the wire, so that the latter continually contacts with a fresh surface of the cleaning band or cord. A bare copper wire 1, Figs. 1, 2, from a reel 2 passes through a die 3 and between two pairs of rolls a1, a2, and a3, a4, made of felt or soft rubber. Rolls a1, a2 rotate on horizontal shafts b1, b2 and rolls a3, a4 on vertical shafts b3, b4. Cotton bands c1, c2, c3, c4 pass from drums d1, d2, d3, d4 round the rolls a1, a2, a3, a4 to take up drums e1, e2, e3, e4 and clean the wire, which is then coated by a grooved roll 5 rotating in an enamel bath 4. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, rolls A1, A2, A3, A4 rotate on shafts B1, B2, B3, B4 parallel to the wire, rolls A1, A2.contacting with the upper and lower surfaces and rolls A3, A4 with the sides of the wire. Bands C1, C2, C3, C4 pass from drums D1, D2, D3, D4 to take up drums E1, E2, E3, E4 as before. In a further modification, Fig. 5, a cotton cord g is drawn from a drum f spirally round the wire 1 in a direction opposite to movement of the wire.
