Abstract

Cables, apparatus and processes for making.- Wire for electric conductors is coated with a thin layer of insulating material by bringing the latter in a vaporized state to the wire, preferably in a vacuum, so that it is deposited thereon by condensation. In practice, the wine is drawn through an annular nozzle through which the vapour of the insulating medium also flows. A ring or circle of nozzles, preferably rotating, mav be used. The process may be repeated several times, with, if desired, different materials such as alternate layers of paraffin and sulphur. The wire is preferably cooled before being brought into contact with the vapour. Layers of metal or semi-conductors may be applied by this method.
