Abstract
306,043. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Dantsizen, C.). Feb. 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Washers.-Soot is removed from combustion products by contact with a cyclic current of water, which accumulates into a quiescent pool, where the soot is separated by flotation and removed, and the water is used again. Oil from a pipe 18 may be atomized by an air jet 20 intothe gas in a pipe 1. The gas rises in a chimney 2 down the walls of which flows a stream of conducting water from tangential nozzles 10,. which form one electrode for a high-potential direct current, a central rod 3 forming the other,. preferably the negative, electrode. Soot deposited on the conducting water is washed intoa tank 11 on which it floats and whence it is removed by a screw, conveyer 27. The water is withdrawn at the bottom adjacent a baffle plateextending nearly to the bottom of the tank and is re-circulated through the pipe 10<a>, about 1 per cent of water being replaced by fresh water at each cycle.
