Abstract
305,828. Terrell, C., (Representative of Terrell, T.). Feb. 17, 1928. Yarns &c., treating with liquids.-Viscose silk in the form of skeins is delustred by producing in and/or on the filaments or threads of the silk an insoluble uncoloured opaque precipitate by impregnating the silk with an aqueous solution of a salt, drying it, and then treating it with an aqueous solution of a salt capable of producing the precipitate by double decomposition with the first salt; one or other of the salts, may be replaced by a suitable base. For example, the silk may be impregnated with an aqueous solution of a barium salt such as barium chloride, dried, and then treated with an aqueous solution of a soluble sulphate such as ammonuim sulphate or of ammonium carbonate, or the solutions may be applied in the reverse order. Similarly, precipitates may be produced from solutions of sodium silicate and a soluble aluminium salt such as aluminium nitrate, or from solutions of a calcium salt and a carbonate. The silk may be washed before and after the delustring treatment.
