Abstract
305,679. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Feb. 10, 1928, [Convention date]. Anthraquinone vat dyes are obtained by the action of an acid condensing agent on a benzanthronylaminoanthraquinone in which the benzanthronylamino group occupies the 1-position of the anthranquinone nucleus and the 2-position is free and which contains at least one aroylamino group in the anthraquinone nucleus. The products appear to contain a carbazol ring, while the aroylamino group is apparently not attacked. Chlorsulphonic acid and sulphuric acid are suitable condensing agents, and the reaction occurring even at ordinary temperature, so that a saponification of the aroylamino group is avoided. In examples, (1) 1-(Bz1-benzanthronylamino)5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone (obtained by condensing 1-amino-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone with Bz1-brombenzanthrone) is stirred with sulphuric acid monohydrate until the dark brown solution changes to blue, the mass is then poured on to ice and the separated dyestuff filtered off ; it dyes cotton from the vat in fast yellowish-brown shades; a similar dyestuff is obtained by starting from the condensation product of 1-amino-5- benzoylaminoanthraquinone ad 6: Bz1-dibrombenzanthrone; (2) 1-(6-benzanthronylamimo)-4- benzoylaminoanthraquinone (from 1-amino-4- benzoylaminoanthraquinone and 6-chlorbenzanthrone) is treated with chlorsulphonic acid; the product dyes cotton in grey-brown shades; by starting with the condensation product from 1- amino-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone and 6-chlorbenzanthrone. a product dyeing cotton in yellowish-brown shades is obtained. Specification 273,656 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers generally to the treatment of benzanthronylaminoanthraquinones containing at least one aroylamino group in the anthraquinone residue, and also to the use of anhydrous aluminium chloride as condensing agent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
