Abstract

305,328. Bussmann, W. Dec. 12, 1927. Addition to 284,309. Stroke, varying; relief devices; combined with other types of pumps.-In a combined high-pressure and low-pressure pump as described in the parent Specification, a valve 33 is arranged in parallel between the pumps, and the valve casing is connected on one side of the valve by a pipe 35 to a chamber 38, and on the other side by a pipe 37 to the same chamber. The chamber 38 contains two connected piston valves 39, 40 mounted on a rod 42 and controlling the ends of the pipes 35, 37 and a pipe 45 opening into the tank in which the pumps are mounted. The valves 39, 40 are held in the position shown by an adjustable spring 44 so that the pressures on the two sides of the valve 33 are equal. If the pressure in the delivery pipe 9 of the high-pressure pump exceeds a certain limit, this pressure acting on the end of the valve 39 through a pipe 46 moves the pistons 39, 40 to the right, closing the pipe 35 and connecting the pipes 37, 45. The pressure above the valve 33 is relieved and the valve opens, releasing the pressure in the pipe 5 through the ports 47. The strokes of the plungers of the high-pressure pump may be adjusted by means of a rotatable cam 48 provided with a number of cam surfaces adapted to engage pins 49 or slots on the plungers during the suction stroke. The cam may be adjusted by arms 52 on a rotatable shaft 51 engaging projections 53 on the cam. The shaft 51 may be adjusted by hand.
