Toothed wheels.-The major portions of the webs of gear wheels or blanks consist of unwoven fibrous material, such as cotton belting or wood fibre, united by an adhesive binder. The rim and web may consist in part of woven fibres such as cotton duck united by phenolic condensation product &c. and built up of segmental pieces or otherwise, the woven and unwoven parts being united by the binder. Fig. 3 shows the unwoven parts 14, 15 and the woven parts 12, the central rib 15 being omitted if desired. The centre of the web may be thickened and a metal hub may be fitted thereto. As shown in Fig. 5, woven strips 19 enclose the unwoven web rings 21 and the woven rim parts 12. A central woven rib 20 may or may not be added. The web centre may be thickened by increase of unwoven material, as shown, or of woven material. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), Specification 303,518 is referred to. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
