Abstract
304,288. Monteux, B. E., and Durand, P. L. Jan. 18, 1928, [Convention date]. Butt joints; spigot-and-socket joints held by cement, caulking, and the like.-In jointing the adjacent ends T', T<2> of two cement &c. pipes formed with a lining r of bitumen, the ends are bevelled to form a groove g and are provided with a bitumen coating b; a bituminous ring c is then positioned between the two pipes and an external sleeve B applied to the junction thereof, the sleeve being provided with a hole h through which bitumen is poured into the groove g. In a spigot-and-socket joint, jointing may be effected by hot bitumen followed by a caulked-in bituminous strip or rubber ring. Fig. 7 shows a butt joint in which flanges H<1>, H<2> are applied to the ends of the pipes through the reinforcing rods l thereof and fluid-tightness is secured by an interposed rubber ring t.
