Abstract

304,274. Hall & Connolly, Inc., (Assignees of Hall, T.). Jan. 18, 1928, [Convention date]. Optical apparatus.-In a projector lamp adapted for quick change from a spot light to flood lighting, comprising an arc lamp 1, a condenser lens 4, an objective lens 40 and an adjustable shutter 13, interconnected mechanism is provided for changing the relative position of the arc and the condenser and simultaneously adjusting the size of the aperture in the shutter. The base 9 of the arc lamp mechanism is slidably mounted on a rotatable shaft 12 having a threaded part engaging one foot 8 of the base so that rotation of a thumb piece 10 adjusts the position of the arc relative to the condenser 4 which is fixed to the lamp housing 6. A square sleeve 44<1> slidable on the shaft 12 drives by bevel gears 19 a vertical shaft 18 connected by bevel gears 20, 21 with the operating means of the iris diaphragm 13. For initial setting, the iris diaphragm can be adjusted independently of the light source by pushing up a thumb piece 26 on the shaft 18 against a spring 27 to disengage the bevel gears 19, and then turning the thumb piece 26, the shaft 18 being in two parts connected by a slot and pin connection 25. The objective lens 40 can be adjusted independently on rods 15 by a shaft 28. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the condenser is movable relatively to the arc and interconnected with both the iris diaphragm mechanism and the mechanism for adjusting the objective lens so that these are simultaneously adjusted. Slip couplings on the shafts permit of independent adjustment of the shutter and objective lens, and the arc lamp mechanism may be separately adjusted. Hollow telescoping cones 45, 46 form a shield for the cone of light between the shutter and the condenser.
