Abstract
304,215. Lightning Fasteners, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Sliding-clasp fastenings in which the stringers 1, 2 carrying the usual members 3 interengaged by a slider 4 are made entimely separable have two or more members 5, 6 clamped to stringer 2 to stiffen it but allow flexibility for passage through the slider, and a socket 15 on stringer 1 to receive the members 5, 6. Member 6 is of split tubular form, and member 5 has a similar tubular portion embracing the edge of the stringer, and a flat extension provided with tabs 9, 10. To prevent fraying the end of the stringer is, cut obliquely and folded over as shown, and is held by bending over the tabs 9, 10, tab 10 being first passed through the material of the stringer. Member 15 has integral jaws 16, 17 clamped to the edge of stringer 1 and a, stop 20 for member 5 so that the member 3 is correctly positioned for operation by the slider. To separate the stringers the slider is moved over the parts 6, 16 into contact with the socket 15 so entirely disengaging members 3. Stringer 2 can then be withdrawn. The slider remains on stringer 1, a stop such as 21, Fig. 2, being provided to prevent its removal at the upper end.
