Abstract

302,974. Hein, G. N. Sept. 23, 1927. Syringes.-In hypodermic syringes in which the needle 12, Fig. 1, is provided with a socketed base 13 frictionally engaging a tapered spigot 11 on the barrel 10 additional meens of a resilient nature are provided to retain the needle base 13 in position. As shown, the means comprises a coil spring 14 the outer coils of which are caused to expand over the. member 13, thus tightening the remainder of the spring on the spigot 11. The member 13 is formed with a helically-cut end 15 and with a radial projection 16 engaging the spring and expanding it on rotation of the member 13. Alternatively, the end of the member 13 may be cut away completely except at the part 16. In further modifications, the member 13 or the spigot 11 may be formed with a helical groove for engagement by the spring 14 or the spring may be secured within a sleeve into which the member 13 is screwed. As shown in Figs. 11 and 12, one end of the spring 29 is formed with a projecting resilient arm 30 engaging a groove 31 in the member 13. Alternatively, each end of the spring may be formed with such an arm. In Fig. 16, the spring is replaced by a screw socket 38 engaging a screw thread on the spigot. In a further modification, the resilient arm 39, Fig. 16, may be replaced by a number of resilient members formed by longitudinally splitting an internally-threaded sleeve,
