B. w. ZIM MERLE.
PENHOLDER. 7 APPLICATION FILED MAY 19, 1920.

INVENTOR.
UNITED STATES PATEN OFFICE.
BENJAMIN WILLIAM ZIHMERLE, 0F SUTTON, NEBRASKA.
rnmrornna.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN WILLIAM ZIMMERLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sutton, in the county. of Clay and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Penholders, of which the following is a specification, reference being-hadtherein to the accompanying drawing.
The invention relates to pen holders and has for its object to provide a pen holder comprising a staff on a reduced portion of which staff a sleeve is secured which sleeve is provided with external threads and a reduced portion, and to provide a sleeve to which cork or any other material is adhesively secured, which last mentioned sleeve is threaded on the first mentioned sleeve, and to provide means carried by the sleeves for holding a pen point in such a manner that the pen point may be easily and quickly released when desired. Also to provide the outer sleeve with an annular flange for limiting the inward movement of the pen point when the pen point is placed in the holder and to provide a second annular flange for engaging the pen point and holding the same against displacement.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pen holder showing a pen point therein.
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view through the pen point holding end.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing a pen point in position.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a pen staff and 2 a reduced portion thereof. Secured to the reduced portion 2 by means of a rivet 3 is a sleeve 4. The sleeve 4 is provided with a threaded portion 5 on which threaded portion 5, a pen point holding sleeve 6 is threaded. The sleeve 5 is provided with a reduced portion 7, which is axially disposed in the pen holding sleeve 6 and has its outer end split as at Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 1 2 1921. Application filed May 19, 1920. Serial No. 382,616. r
8 so as to give when the clamped in the holder.
It will be seen that the flange l2 islimited as to the area of binding surface on the pen and that as the flange is moved outwardly around the split end of the sleeve 4 that the pen will be immediately released.
From the above it will be seen that a pen holder is provided which is positive in its operation and one wherein thereleasing of the penmay be quickly accomplished. 'It will also be seen that during the initial unscrewing action that the flange 10 will force the pen oint 9 outwardly thereby breaking any a esion of the pen point incident to corrosion. y The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 2- 1. The combination with a pen stafi having a reduced portion, of a pen holder therefor comprising a sleeve carried by the reduced portion, said sleeve being provided with an enlarged threaded portion and a reduced split portion, a second sleeve threaded on the enlarged threaded portion and having its inner periphery spaced from the outer periphery of the reduced portion of the first mentioned sleeve, a pen point limiting flangeon the inner periphery of the outer sleeve intermediate its length and a pen point holding and engaging flange on the inner periphery of the outer sleeve and so positioned that it will surround the split end of the reduced portion ofthe: inner sleeve when the outer sleeve is screwed inwardly on the threaded portion of the inner sleeve.
2. A pen holder comprising inner and outer sleeves said inner and outer sleeves being threaded together at their rear ends,
the inner sleeve having its outer end reduced and split, and means carried on the inner periphery of the outer sleeve for limiting end of the inner sleeve.
i In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature. i
BENJAMIN WILLIAM ZIMMERLE.
