Signs. -A portable warning sign, particularly adapted for use in connection with street repairs, of the type in which the lamp is enclosed in a casing having an opening on one or more sides to receive a transparent screen and slidably mounted interchangeable stencil plate, is fitted with a multipleburnered lamp slidably mounted in guides on the casing and with a system of cowls and hood at the top of the casing for the escape of the products of combustion. In the illustrated construction an interiorly-reflecting sheet-metal casing with a hinged door f at one end carries a slidably removable notice mounted in guides at one side. The notice comprises a stencil plate k backed by a sheet of opal or frosted glass illuminated at night by oil lamps in the interior of the casing and removable for cleaning or changing the notice when the end door is opened. An oil reservoir carrying two or more burners slides in guides in the box. Openings for the escape of the products of combustion are provided in the top of the casing leading to a through passage formed by the domed cover t with open ends. Curved cowls s cover each opening to some extent.
