Resistances, measuring. - In salinometers of the kind wherein the resistance of a column of liquid is measured three electrodes are provided and the resistance between the central one and the outer two is measured bv an ohmeter. Compensation for changes in temperature may be effected either by moving the central electrode or by adjusting a resistance in circuit with the control coil of the ohmeter. Figure 4 illustrates the latter method. The electrodes c, d are separated by insulating sections a, b of the test chamber. Before entering the latter the liquid passes through a series of concentric pipes c', d<1>, e<1> composed of metals having different coefficients of expansion and connected to a rack and pinion h<1> which adjusts the amount of resistance. y in series with the control coil of the ohmeter g according to the temperature of the liquid. In a modification the adjustment is manually effected according to the reading of a thermometer inserted in the liquid.
