Abstract

Assembling matrices.-Relates to machines for handling matrices having characters at different levels, in which the assembler, intermediate channel, and first elevator have each two sets of supporting-rails, and a movable stop is also provided for arresting the first elevator at a higher level than usual. In order to prevent the improper presentation of matrices to the mould, a safety device is provided for locking the assembler, when matrices have been assembled at the higher level, and the elevator stop is also in action. The retractable rail A' of the assembler has a plate A', which rests below a curved nose portion J<1> of a lever J, when the rail is in active position. A sliding rod J', abutting at one end against a lug J<2> on the lever J, is adapted to abut at the other end against a lug G<2> on the elevator-stop G, when the stop is in active position, so that the lever J is locked, and the assembler is prevented from rising.
