Drilling.-A modification of the invention of the parent Specification comprises a base plate 1 at each corner of which is secured a pillar 3 supporting, by means of interchangeable distance pieces and nuts 43. two pairs of spaced guide bars 5, 6. A similar pair of bars 8 is provided with distance pieces 9 which slide between the bars 5, 6 feet 10 being formed on the bars 8 to guide them as they are adjusted by means of a fine pitched screw 21 and a hand wheel 22. One or more drill-bush carrying blocks 11 have parts slidable between the bars 8 and are adjusted by screws 15 engaging knurled nuts 16 rotatably mounted in blocks 17 which also are adjustable along the bars 8. In operation, the work is laid on blocks 33, 34, 29<1> and 30' and is pressed into contact with ledges 31. 32 on the two former by eccentric clamps 29, 30 on the latter. The clamps have helical ribs engaging the work so as to force it downwards on the blocks. The bars 8 are adjusted by means of a scale 26 and vernier 26<1> and the drill bushes by means of a scale 27 and vernier 27', locking in the adjusted position being effected by nuts 25, 45. 19 and 13. Both scales start from a zero point x which is at the point of intersection of the sides of the blocks 33, 34. In drilling long pieces of work, as many holes as possible are drilled as described above and then the top part of the block 34 is removed to allow the work to be moved along. A gauge 35, Fig. 3, is provided with pins 36 adapted to fit in holes 39 in the base 1 when the gauge is passed through a groove 41 in the block 33 to cause its foot 37 to form an abutment for the edge of the work. Gauge bars of different lengths may be provided, and the top of the block 33 may be removed if required.
