Application January 21, 1948, Serial No. 3,576
This invention relates to improvements in peggeddoor jamb setting and setting equipment.
An object of the invention is to provide improvements in pegged door jambs and means for setting the same true and square and in line with absolute accuracy.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved method or means for setting pegged door jambs which insures the absolute centering.
Claims. (Cl. 33-194) setting a plurality of pegs in a doorway and for measuring the proper positions for cutting off the pegs so that a door jamb when inserted in the doorway will be guided by the pegs to a true and square setting, and in line with absolute accuracy. "Astill further object of the invention will be to provide an improved door jamb setting equipment which will be highly eflicient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds. v In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application,-
' Figure l is a perspective view of a doorway with portions thereof being removed to show the pegged door jamb centered and in position therein;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a doorway with the plumb-bob reel and peg marking gauge in position for measuring and marking the pegs where they are to be cut;
- Figure 3 is a partial sectional view showing the In carrying out the invention, a series of horizontally disposed pairs of vertically spaced openings l are bored or otherwise formed in the opposite sides of the sub-jambs or bucks 2 of a door opening generally designated by the reference numeral 3, and pegs or dowel pins 4 of any desired material having-sharpened ends 5 are driven into said openings, as clearly shown in the drawings. i
A pair of. transversely spaced nails 6 and l are then driven into the face of the upper cross piece 8 connecting the sub-jambs or bucks 2, and the improved plumb-bob reel is supported upon said nails 6 and T. Theplumb-bobreel comprises an elongated boardor body 9 of a shorter length than the opening between the opposite subjambs or bucks 2, and supports the pair of arc'uate fingers l0 andl l. whose inner curvatures extend towards the ends of said body 9; The fingers extendthrough the body 9 and above and below the same, andare'provided to form a reel upon which theplumb-bob line l2 and attached plumb-bob l3 are wound and supported. An aperture 14 is formed centrally through the body 9 for the reception and passage of the line l2 witih the plumb-bob l3 suspended at its lower en Cooperating with the plumb-bob reel is a marking gauge comprising an elongated board or body l5 of lesser length than the distance between the side sub-jambs or bucks 2, the same being provided with aligned slots l6, l1 and I8, disposed centrally through the body l5, and adjacent the opposite ends thereof.
A centering plate l9 having a pointer line or arrow 2!! is secured in the center slot l6 by means of the bolt 2| and wing nut 22, and is normally secured at the center point of the body l5.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that there has been devised and provided a highly efficient method of and means for setting pegged door jambs in their proper'positions in door openings.
Having thus described my invention, what .I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. Apparatus for setting door jambs comprising pairs of pins capable of being out through, said pins adapted to be inserted in and project from the side sub-jambs of a door opening, a plumb-bob reel supported plumb-bob line and plumb-bob adapted to be supported transversely above said side sub-jambs, and .an adjustable measuring gauge the endsof which are cut on square and are supportable on said pins for marking the same for cutting off the projecting portions of the ends of the pins to provide a true and square setting of a door jamb when disposed between the ends of said pins, said gauge having a marking alignable with the plumb-bob line.
2. Apparatus for setting door jambs comprising pairs of pins capable of being cut through, said pins being sharpened at one end to extend into and project from the side sub-jambs of a door opening in vertical spaced relation, a plumb bob reel supported plumb-bob line and plumbbob adapted to be supported transversely above said side sub-jambs, an adjustable measuring gauge the endsof which are cut off square and are supported on said pins for marking the pins for cutting off their ends to provide a true and square setting of a'door-jarnb when disposed between the ends of said pins, and a centering plate with pointer line alignable with the plumb-bob line adjustably supported by said measuring gauge.
3. The subject matter as claimed in claim 2, said measuring gauge being formed with aligned central and end slots, the centering plate being adjustable longitudinally of the central slot, and end measuring plates constituting said ends of the measuring gauge and supported above and adjustable longitudinally of said end slots.
4. The subject matter as claimed in claim 2, said measuring gauge being formed with aligned longitudinal central and end slots, said centering plate being supported over and adjustable longitudinally of said central slot, and flat horizontally disposed end measuring plates constituting said ends of the measuring gauge supported above and adjustable longitudinally of said end slots.
5. The subject matter as claimed in claim 2, said measuring gauge being formed with aligned longitudinal central and end slots, said centering plate being supported over and adjustable longitudinally of said central slot, flat horizontal end measuring plates constituting said ends of the gauge supported above and adjustable longitudinally of said end slots, and vertical sub-lamb edge enga ing aligning plates secured to side edges of said measuring plates and projecting beyond the outer ends of the plates.
