sAsH-PULLEY MARKER.
Application led March 2, 1925. Serial No. 12,650.
A. still further object of the invention is tov provide a marker of this character which is Figure 2 is a side elevation of the devicey embodying my invention, and
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 generally indicates one of the side rails of a window frame provided in the central portion thereof with a longitudinal groove G for the purpose of receiving therein the usual parting strip, (not shown). At the upper extremity of the side rails 5 is shown the usual head rail 7 The description thus far has dealt with a simple form of window frame shown merely to illustrate the application of my device in connect-ion therewith.
Referring now more particularly to the construction embodying my invention, the numeral 8 designates a longitudinal guide strip of preferably metallic construction and rectangular in cross section. This strip is adapted to engage the parting strip groove 6 and adapted to be slidably mounted therein. The lower portion of the strip 8 is provided with a plurality of screw threaded openings 9 adapted to receive therein a suit-` able retaining screw 10.
forming a Carried by the outer edge of the longitudinal guide strip 8 is a centering plate v1i. substantially rectangular in formation 'and provided with a longitudinal groove lformed in the central portion of the rear face thereof, this groove being adapted to engage the outer project-ion fof the guide `strip -8 in order to retain the centering plate securely in posit-ion. is provided with 'a countersunlr "opening 12 adapted to receive therein the retaining' 'screw 10 which securely retains the plate in v position upon the guide strip 8. A plurality' of centering screws 13 are mounted in vertical alignment adjacent the vertical sides of the centering plate, these screws being mounted in suitable screw threaded openings and provided on the inner extremities with centering points 14.
In use, my improved device is adapted to provide means for rapidly and accurately impressing the center points for drilling the y side rails of window frames in forming the pulley slot. It is customary in forming the slot in the sash frame to bore a plurality of aligned holes through the rail and chip the intervening material to form a rectangular opening through which the sash weights are inserted and Vinto which the pulleys arek mounted. It is necessary in performing this operation to accurately center the drilling openings which is now usually done by measurement from the head rail. This consumes a substantial amount of time and labor and often results in inaccurate work.
With myimproved device the centering of these drilling holes is accomplished in a fraction of the time usually consumed and insures accurate workmanship. The distance of the pulley slots from the head rail is first ascertained and the centering plate 11 is secured in suitable relation upon' the guide strip 8. This is accomplished by operation of the retaining screw 10 and correspending movement of the centering plate, the lower portion of the guide .strip being provided with a plurality of screw threaded openings to permit the adjustment. When the centering plate has been secured in .its proper position upon the guide strip the connected device .is placed in association with the window frame side rail. the guide strip engaging the parting strip groove formed therein. The guide strip is then forced upwardly against the head rail and the centering plate forcibly struck with a hammer or The front side of the centering plate any suitable implement. cause the centering screws to mark "the proper centering points in the frame and the centering operation is completed. Y
It is to be understood that the forml of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention7 I claim: i i u l. A Window sash marker including `a guide strip having a plurality of openings therein, a plate having an opening mountedv on the guide strip, aretaining member engageable with the openings `formed in the ,plate and guide strip for adjustable connec-V tion thereof, and marking members carried by the plate.
This impact will 2. A device of the character describedy injustable plate secured upon t e guide strip,
y means for adjustablv securing the plate upon the guide strip, an( a plurality of marking members threadedly mounted on Vthe side edges of the plate for independent adjustment. a
3. A marking device Vincluding a guide strip having a plurality of threaded openings, a plate formed with acentral opening mounted on the guide strip, a retaining member adapted for threaded engagement With the openings in the guide strips adapted to adjustably secure the plate on the guide strip, and a plurality of tapered mark-"V ing members mounted in the sides of the plate, arranged for transverse movement through the plate for independent adjust ment. Y
In testimony whereof I alii-x my signature.
