301,549. British Dyestuffs Corporation, Ltd., Adams, H., and Shepherdson, A. Aug. 3, 1927. Divided application. Dye preparations; azo dyes; sulphonic acids.- Dry dispersed dye preparations and dye pastes are made with the aid of a product obtained by heating ligninsulphonic acid with aqueous alkali metal hydroxides or carbonates. In an example of the preparation of the dispersing agents, ligninsulphonic acid (sulphite cellulose pitch) is heated with aqueous caustic soda in a closed vessel to 110‹, the mixture is diluted, acidified with hydrochloric acid, and the precipitate dried, with or without previous removal of electrolytes by washing. The product is soluble in alkalies and couples with diazo compounds to form azo dyes. A similar product is obtained by using a concentrated solution of potassium carbonate in place of the caustic soda. In examples of the production of dye preparations, (1) an aqueous paste of Duranthrene blue 3 GT in a fine state of division is mixed with an alkaline solution of the product obtained by heating ligninsulphonic acid with caustic soda, and the mixture is dried and powdered; the process may be applied to insoluble azo dyes, pigments and aminoanthraquinones such as are used in dyeing cellulose esters and ethers, (2) an aqueous paste containing the monoazo dye from 5-nitro-2-anisidine and diethylaniline in finely divided form is mixed with an alkaline solution of one of the products described above, and the mixture is dried and powdered, and (3) indigo powder is mixed in plastic form with an alkaline solution of one of the products described above, and the mixture is kneaded to obtain the required degree of dispersion.
