Abstract

301,528. Griffiths, E. E. Aug. 30, 1927. Endless-chain conveyers with slat and lath carriers; parallel chains with widely-spaced crossconnections; discharging-devices.-In apparatus for transferring from an endless chain conveyer passing through an annealing furnace to other conveyers or apparatus metal sheets bent to trough or channel shape, the longitudinal' edges of which are supported by transverse carrier arms on the conveyer and held in position laterally by fingers on these arms, the transfer is effected by rotary toothed members driven by one of the conveyer sprocket wheels so that the tips of the teeth of the said members pass through the spaces between the carrier arms and engage the longitudinal edges of the sheets and move them outwardly clear of the conveyer. The conveyer chain D is driven by sprocket F and is provided with carrier bars d<1>. Fingers d<2>, Fig. 3, at the ends of each bar retain the curved plates E in position, and if the plates are very thin, the bars also may carry inclined supporting fingers d'. The transfer wheel is made in halves T<1>, T<2>, Fig. 2, each of which is bolted to the sprocket F. Each half has teeth t<4>, the pitch of which is a multiple of the pitch of the teeth of the wheel F. The tips of the teeth may be notched at t<5> to receive the edges e<1> of the plates as they become disengaged from the fingers d<2>. The transfer wheel may be independent of the driving sprocket and formed with a sprocket which engages the conveyer, or the transfer wheel may be geared to a driving sprocket. The conveyer may consist of two chains with the cross-bars between them. When the fingers d<2> are inclined inwardly, the axes f<3>, f<3x>, Fig. 5, of the halves T<1>, T<2> are inclined to each other, and the edges of the sheets are closed by engagement with the notches t<5> and disengaged from the fingers.
