Abstract

Plug couplings.-A multiple pin coupling has the contacts on one of the elements rigidly secured, those on the other being floatingly mounted so as to align themselves with the fixed contacts. The floating sockets 5 are loosely mounted in holes 2 in the insulating body 1 and are acted upon by a spring 9 that may be a helical or flat spring or a rubber ring. The sockets are arranged to form an irregular polygon to ensure correct connection, and a rigidly mounted central socket may be provided. Two concentric sets of sockets may be provided having separate springs. Insulating rings 8 may surround each socket where the spring acts. A spring acting outwards on the inside of the sockets may be employed. The sockets are held in place by a cap 11 that may cover the spring 9. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) each socket may be acted upon by an individual spring either flat or helical in tension or compression, tension springs, when used, being attached to the rings 8 and anchored at or near the centre of the body 1. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
