Disinfecting chambers and vessels.-In sterilizers for surgical instruments, comprising a container a carried in a support b and having a hinged lid c the lid is provided with counterweights i, m adapted' to retain it in open or closed position as required. The weight i is carried by the spindle h supported by brackets g connected to the lid c. One of the brackets g is extended as at j along the cover c and is provided with downward projections k carrying a spindle l along which the weight m is slidable. The lid c is held open or closed according as the weight m is adjacent to a remote from the lid hinges d. The instrument tray c is supported on lazy-tongs n pivoted to the container a at p, and connected with the lid c by a link o or a pair of such links whereby the tray is raised or lowered by the movement of the lid.
