Abstract

301,040. Marti, F. Nov. 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Electric clocks.-In an electric clock or time-piece the balance shaft is electromagnetically maintained and carries two impulse pallets which drive a wheel of the wheelwork, the teeth of this driven wheel and the pallets forming the contacts for the circuit of the electromagnet 11, 12, 13; the armature 6 being carried on the same shaft 4 as the driving pallets 7, 8, the balance 5, and the balance spring 9. These contact teeth are carried on a wheel 14 mounted on a shaft 15 geared to the hands 18. This wheel 14 is insulated from its shaft 15 but is connected electrically with a blade 19. The circuit for the magnet is from the battery to the windings 12, 13, blade 19, wheel 14, driving pallet 7 (or 8), shaft 4, spring 9, base plate, terminal 20, and back to battery. As the shaft 4 moves in either direction a pallet 7 (or 8) contacts with the teeth and completes this circuit, the magnet then driving the rotating armature 6 and therefore the pallet further in the same direction to rotate the wheel 14. The shaft is driven in the return direction by the stressed spring 9. The pallets 7, 8 and wheel 14 are constructed as shown so that the wheel moves forward one step at a time. The armature 6 is a disc but in a modification a simple arm is used.
