Abstract
890,349. Electric clocks. TOKITA, K., and TSUKAGOSHI, T. July 4, 1960 [Dec. 15, 1959], No. 23289/60. Class 139. An electric clock comprises a polarised rotor 1 and a stator 2 having a winding 5 and asymetrical polepieces 3, 4. The rotor spindle 6 drives a spindle 14 through the gears 7 and 8. The spindle 14 carries a commutator 9 which co-operates with brushes 10-13 and has mounted thereon a cylinder 16 from which extends an arm 17 having a contact 18 and which co-operates with a brush 20. One end of a spiral spring 15 is connected to the spindle 14 and the other end to a pin 27 extending from the arm 23 mounted on a cylinder 21 on a shaft 28 connected through gearing 29, 30, 31 with an escapement 32. The cylinder 21 co-operates with a brush 22 and has an arm 24 which carries a contact 26. The arrangement is such that the spring 15 is repeatedly stressed by rotation of the rotor to separate the contacts 18, 26. The spring 15 then unwinds to cause the contact 26 to follow and eventually engage the contact 18 to reverse the direction of current flow through the winding 5 so that the rotor 1 is again rotated and the spring 15 again stressed. The contact 26 contains a magnetic member which ensures its engagement with the contact 18.
