Abstract

300,947. Soc. Anon. des Usines J. Gallay. Nov. 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-A route-indicating device for use on a vehicle has a rotary signal member which is normally held in its neutral position, and is operated by one of two oppositely acting electro-magnets. and is returned to its neutral position when released. The casing a has a transparent cover k, and contains four radial arms b which support a rectangular frame c carrying a bearing e for a spindle f. The disc i, of translucid material, is secured to the arms g, h on the spindle and is marked by an arrow. A pinion l fixed on the spindle meshes with a rack on the core m of the solenoids o, p. The core has enlarged heads q at each end sliding in sleeves r of non-magnetic material. Locking members t, u are arranged in the ends of the solenoids and are pressed outwards by springs, so that they engage pins v, w on the disc i to prevent the disc from rotating. The arrow on the disc is normally vertical. When the driver desires to give an indication, he energizes one of the solenoids, for example the solenoid o, which attracts the locking member t and the core m. The member t moves inwards and removes the lock on the pin v so that the disc i is free to turn in a clockwise direction, and the core m then moves to rotate the disc. At the end of the rotation the pin 4 on the pinion l operates the contacts 6, 16 to close the circuit of a pilot lamp, to show that the indicator movement has been made. When the solenoid current ceases, a counterweight returns the disc to its neutral position, and the pin v presses the inclined end of the member t inwards to enable the parts to pass to the locking position. Lamps 20 illuminate the disc at night.
