Dials and scales, illuminating.-In a liquid level indicator, a float moves vertically, adjacent to a vertical spindle carrying a series of spaced projections which are capable of being turned, by actuating means at a distance, into contact with the float, the amount of movement depending on the level of the float. In one type of indicator, Fig. 6, the wire g is attached to a disc k rotated by a turn knob k<3>, but no scale is provided. The spindle k<2> carries a contact arm p' which moves over contact studs p associated with small electric lamps l visible through windows n<2> bearing indicating data corresponding to the position of the float. In another indicator, Figs. 8, 9 and 10, the angular movement of the spindle b is effected, when a reading is required, by pressing a button r which completes the circuit of a solenoid g<3> and so draws a core g<2> into the solenoid. The core g<2> is secured by an arm q<1> to the spindle b. At the same time, a contact plate p<3> attached to the arm q<1> moves over contacts p , each associated with an indicating lamp l.
