Abstract

Damping wefts in looms.-A device for moistening a thread c before or during its use in a weaving or similar machine, and for moving it clear of moistening orifices when the machine is stopped, comprises a liquid container a which is arranged in the manner of a bird fountain and is closed except at the orifices b<1>, b<2> over which the thread passes. The orifices may be filled with sponge, felt, or other absorbent material k extending below them. The thread c passes through eyelets i and eyelets e<1>, e<2> in a spring or weight controlled guide pivoted at e and tending to raise the thread into the position shown in Fig. 2. When the machine is running, the tension of the thread causes the eyelets e<1>, e<2> to be depressed so that the thread makes contact with the orifices b<1>, b<2>. The pressure of the thread on the orifices is regulated by an extension g of the thread guide. As the liquid is consumed, bubbles d rise in the container.
