Abstract

300,001. Marks, E. C. R., (Lakewest Corporation). Oct. 26, 1927. Compound paper.-Material for making plastic caps for containers such as milk bottles comprises several laminations of fibrous material such as crinkled paper which is partially impregnated and fully consolidated with a compound of earthy and resinous substances. Craft or crepe paper is preferably used, and impregnated with a compound consisting of dehydrated terra alba and deodorized rosin, for example, 33 per cent of the former and 67 per cent of the latter. The terra alba is dehydrated by heating to about 375‹ F., and the rosin is deodorized by melting and heating to 350‹ F., and adding 2 per cent of sodium bisulphide. The terra alba and the rosin are mixed at 375‹ F. The laminations of fibrous material are passed between rollers and the compound in liquid form at a temperature of about 260‹ F. is fed between the laminations. As the material is drawn between the rollers the whole is impregnated and consolidated. The colour may be varied for different lots of plastic materials.
