Abstract
298,691. Eccles, W., Perry, J., F., Davison, J. W., and Metropolitan- Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. July 18, 1927. Inertia governors.-An inertia governor which may be applied to the control of a winding gear as described in Specification 301,338, comprises a shaft 9 driven by the machine to be governed, a member 66 fixed to the shaft, and a flywheel 67 rotatably mounted on bearings on the shaft and connected to the member 66 by two springs 68, 69 so that, when a change of speed occurs, the flywheel may rotate relatively to the member 66 against the action of one or other of the springs. The flywheel carries a cam 70 engaging a roller 75 on a sleeve 72 slidably mounted on a squared portion of the shaft 9. Movement of the sleeve. 72 is transmitted to the controlling member 98 by the members 76, 120 and a lever 77 pivoted at 78. To make the movement of the controlling member 98 independent of the direction of rotation of the shaft 9, the link 84 is connected by a rod 96 to a weighted rod 95 carried by one member 93 of a clutch 85, the other member 89 of which is driven by the shaft 9. Pivoted weighted arms 90, 91 carried by the member 89 are out of contact with the drum 93 when the shaft 9 is rotating normally, but when the shaft slows down prior to reversal, the arms grip the drum and turn it, thereby moving the end 83 of the rod 84 to the other end of the slot 82 of the lever 77.
