Abstract

297,100. National Malleable &. Steel Castings Co., (Assignees of Brooks, C. K.). Sept. 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Combined buffer and draw-gear.-In apparatus in which a wedge, member 23 forces friction shoes 25 against slightly tapered friction members, lubricating material 20 is applied to or interposed between the wedge and shoes so as to prevent them from sticking together when released. A force applied to the member 23 is resisted by springs met by the frictional resistance due to the pressure between the shoes 25 and the friction members. Graphite with a suitable binder may be let into recesses in the faces of the wedge 23 or antifriction materials such as lead may be employed. In the modification shown in Fig. 1, a plate 5 of brass or other relatively soft metal is let into the face of the wedge member 4 and is perforated to receive graphite or other lubricating material 10.
