Abstract

297,074. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). June 14, 1927. Antiseptics; lotions; medicinal powders for external use.-A phenol ether or phenol ether derivative without free phenolic groups is used in preserving provisions, foodstuffs and pharmaceutical and technical preparations, and for making non-medicinal disinfecting preparations. With foodstuffs, non-poisonous substances are used, e.g. marmalade is preserved by addition of 0.15 per cent of sodium anisate. A disinfecting foot-dusting powder is obtained by mixing 3 grams of acetanisidine with 20 grams of zinc oxide, 27 grams of wheat starch and 50 grams of talc. A disinfecting hair wash is prepared by dissolving 5 grams of pyrocatechin-dimethyl ether in 100 grams of alcohol. Reference is made to the Public Health (Preservatives, &c., in Food) Regulations, 1925.
