Abstract

296,752. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farberindustrie Akt.-Ges.). March 3, 1927. Divided on 296,683 Hydrocarbons.-The hot parts of apparatus in which hydrocarbons are treated at high temperature are treated with boron, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, phosphorus, selenium or compounds of any of these or with silicon to prevent deposition of carbon. Mere traces of the additions are sufficient; they may be introduced by treating the apparatus with solutions or vapours containing the above compounds, or by adding such compounds as are volatile to the hydrocarbons under treatment. According to an example, a copper tube is treated with boric acid solution before being used for the catalytic conversion of ethylene into benzene. The invention is generally applicable to processes involving heat treatment of hydrocarbons, including cracking processes, but it does not include hydrogenating processes unless such addition is introduced into the reaction mixture. Specification 270,313, [Class 32, Distilling &c.], is referred to.
