Abstract
296,418. Daniel, C. E. Aug. 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Extrusion machines. - A stencil-making machine comprises an horizontal cylinder adapted to receive a slug of semi-plastic. composition and furnished with an end cap carrying an interchangeable. die, and means for guiding a lead, core through the die together with means for expressing the material through the die and about the lead core. As shown, a cylinder 5 is furnished with a cap 12 hinged thereto by lugs 10, 8 and adapted to be secured against the cylinder by bolts. The cap 12 is fitted with a die member 15 interchangeably supported in a shouldered press 13. The material is expressed from the cylinder by a piston 18 operated by a screw 19 driven through a gear 20, rotation of the piston being prevented by a swivel connection. Lead cores are fed through a tube 21 extending through the screw 19 into proximity to the die. The cores are supplied to the tube from a hopper 23' by rubber &c. covered rollers 27 driven at an appropriate speed. In operation, the cap 12 is opened and the cylinder charged with a perforated slug of wood-pulp composition. An appropriate die is inserted into the cap which is then closed and the plunger 18 and core feed 27 set into operation.
