Abstract

294,055. Fellows, H. M., and Fellows, J. M. Dec. 23, 1927. Steering-gear. - In steering-gears movement of the rudder to port and/or starboard side is assisted by a spring or similar resilient means cooperating with fusees or other torque regulating devices. The tiller 1 is extended at 3 and chains 4 pass therefrom to a fusee 5 secured to a spindle 6 by a volute spring 7 which is enclosed in a casing 8 secured to the deck. In a modification a double fusee is fixed to the hand wheel shaft and the chain from it passes to a quadrant to which a second chain is secured that is anchored to a spring unit.
