In an installation comprising two, Fig. 6, or more, Fig. 10, rudders, the rudders are coupled to a drive for varying angular speeds in such manner that in the hard-over position the deflection angle a, of the rudder 3 situated on the outside of the ship's turning circle is smaller than the deflection angle # of the rudder 3<SP>1</SP> situated on the inside of the turning circle, while between the front edge 12 of the rudder 3<SP>1</SP> lying on the inside of said circle and the near edge 13, lying therebehind, of the rudder 3 lying on the outside of the circle, a gap a is formed. The drive may comprise oval gear wheels 6, 6<SP>1</SP> on the rudder shafts 5, 5<SP>1</SP> engaging an oval toothed wheel 7 coupled via a wheel 9, bevel wheel 10 and shaft 11 to the steering wheel.
