Abstract

Signs; letters, numerals, and the like. - In signs of the trough or box type wherein the display portion is made up of one or more strip-like areas or bands and has illuminating means in the casing behind it, the display portion is made up of mosaic pattern of elements arranged in a jumbled manner. The display strip may be formed of transparent, translucent or reflecting elements of various colours. When reflecting elements are used, the light is diffused through gaps surrounding the mosaic parts or is, supplied by a shielded lamp projecting through the mosaic strip. Figs. 1 and 2 show one construction in which the mosaic band 16 is V-shaped with the angle shown projecting outwardly, but in other cases it may project inwardly. The band is secured to the front of the lamp-carrying casing 10 bv screws 13. In an alternative construction for reflecting mosaic elements, the band 16 is made smaller than the opening in the front of the casing to leave a light-transmitting gap all round it. The individual pieces of glass, celluloid or the like forming the mosaic are secured in pierced portions of the holding plate. The side walls of the casing 10 axe extended beyond the rear wall 14 to cover and protect the lamp sockets. Fig. 3 shows a, construction in which a gap 26 is left all round between the mosaic letter and its supporting plate 25, the letter being lodged on small projecting bracket arms or webs 23. A letter and plate are mounted slidably in the front of the lamp-carrying casing. Specification 247,753 is referred to.
