Heating and cooling.-In rolling or grinding machines, for example such as are used in the mastication and mixing of rubber, masses of wear-resisting material are placed inside the water-cooled rolls &c. whereby the direct watercooling of the rolls &c. is made more efficient by the prevention of the formation of deposits, such as rust. The wear-resisting material may be in the form of balls or cylinders of iron, stone, or rubber.
