Pile-fabric looms; terry-forming.-In order that the loop-forming devices may be controlled by pattern surface mechanism which dwells for long periods, a lever 8 for controlling the terryforming mechanism is connected by a rod 7a to a lever 7 pivoted at x. This lever is acted upon by a bowl 5a in the vertical arm of a three-armed lever 5, which is actuated by flexible connections or slotted rods 4, 4<a> from two dobby draw-catches 2, 2<a>. When the lever 5 has been turned by the catch 2a to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, further operation of the catch 2a has no effect on the lever 5, the bowl 5<a> allowing the right hand end of the lever 7 to fall so that the other end of this lever raises the rod 7<a> and lever 8. At the beat up, this lever engages a pin 10 on a shaft 11 and turns this shaft against the action of a spring whereby the reed arm 11<a> is actuated to form terry. A bowl 20 on a pin or a wheel on a shaft driven from the tappet shaft acts on the lever 7 every fourth or other pick to make the reed fast to beat up the three or other number of loose picks whilst terry is being formed. The terry formation continues until the other draw catch 2 is operated whereupon the lever 5 is moved into the position shown m full lines and terry formation ceases until the catch 2a is again operated. When a dobby with horizontal catches is used, these are connected by bell-crank levers to the slotted rods &c. The catches 2, 2a may be controlled by the body and border pattern surfaces respectively. Letting-off warps. - The three-armed lever carries a second bowl 5<c> to actuate a lever 14 connected by a rod 14a to a lever 15 for operating the friction let-off rope &c., so that when terry is being formed, the friction let-off mechanism is released. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of the three-armed lever for controlling the let-off to produce fabrics with crinkled effects.
