Abstract
293,479. Fritzsche, J. April 6, 1927. Blasting fuzes having a core of powdered or granulated material are dried during their manufacture, after the spinning operation and prior to impregnation, by means of hot air &c. In making the powder core, the mixture may be wetted or moistened with any suitable liquid to minimize danger, and to facilitate proper filling of the wrapping by the powder. This moisture is then expelled after the fuze leaves the last winding unit by passing the fuze through any suitable drying apparatus, after which it may be coiled on a drum, for subsequent impregnation. To prevent any soluble constituent of the powder from being carried out to the surrounding covering, the core may be wrapped with sized paper or the like, through which permeation of a liquid cannot readily occur.
