Abstract

Wrappers.-Electric lamps, thermionic valves and like articles are packed in cylindrical or prismatic wrappers made from webs 15, 18, Fig. 2, of corrugated paper and plain paper respectively, the latter being wider than the former so as to project beyond the ends of the resultant tube of corrugated paper. The webs are fed through a guide 24, Figs. 2 and 8, by rollers 20, 21. When a sufficient length has been fed, a knife 26 severs a portion, the forward end of which lies between a movable jaw 33, Fig. 6, on a winding mandrel 10, and a paw 35 fixed to the mandrel. The jaw 33 is actuated to clamp the paper against the jaw 35, and the mandrel rotates, winding the material about itself as shown in Fig. 8, a roller 40 controlling the free end. Staples are introduced in known manner, indentations 44 on the jaw 33 permitting their entrance. The tube is slid axially from the mandrel by an annular pusher 45 into one of a number of sleeves 8 for filling.
