Abstract

292,869. Vicars, Sir W. July 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Skins, cleaning.-In a machine for removing burrs and other matter from the skins of animals, the skins, which are hung over carriers, are traversed upwardly between a pair of rotating drums provided with parting and heating elements. In the construction shown, the skins 10, each carried detachably on boards 11, are fed in to the machine on runways 14 and the boards are engaged by hooks 17 on a pair of driven endless chains 16 so that the skins are moved upwardly between rotating drums 23, 24 and between mangle rollers 25, 26. The drums are provided with heating and parting elements such as are described in Specification 214,840, and their positions may be adjusted by means of slidablymounted wedges 38 connected by links to compensating layers 49. The drums and rollers are mounted in sliding bearings pressed inwardly by springs. Perforated pipes 48 are provided for the purpose of delivering sprays of water over the skins.
