Abstract

Dynamometers.-Comprises a device for determining the effective horse power, the number of blows, and the intensity of the recoil of a pneumatic hammer. The hammer is gripped by two holders 3, 4 which can slide on a base 1 on which also slides a push plate 2. A test piece 6 of malleable material with a very low yield point is carried at one end by a fixed part 7 and at the other end by a sliding part 8. The hammer together with the parts 2, 3, 4 are drawn by a spring 15 adjustable by a screw 16 so that the hammer head 10 engages the part 9 and the hammer is allowed to deliver a sequence of blows on the part 9 for a given time. The energy communicated to the part 9 is measured by the deformation of the specimen 6 the properties of which are known from independently prepared stress-strain diagrams, and the horse-power may be calculated. The work done by the hammer may also be calculated by measuring the total heat generated in the test piece. The number of blows and the intensity of the recoils can be obtained by measuring the frequency and amplitude of the vibrations by means of a vibroscope. The specimen may be arranged so as to be under compression instead of tension. The invention may be applied to rock drills.
