Rakes, horse.-A horse rake of the type in which the tines 6 are adapted to be raised when pivoted pawls 11 on the tine frame 1 engage ratchet teeth 5 secured to the wheel hubs, the pawls when necessary being positively actuated by their operating rods 9 for movement in either direction, has sufficient play or lost motion provided between each pawl and its actuating device, namely, the sides of a slot, to permit one pawl to ride over the ratchet teeth should one wheel be backed while the tines are lifted. The pawls 11 are pivoted on the frame 1 and are provided with stops 13, 14 forming the sides of slots, between which cranks 1 on the ends of the treadle-actuated rods 9 move. The lost motion is provided between the cranks and the stops. The treadle is connected by a link 18 with a crank arm 19 on the rod 9 and is returned to its normal position by a spring 20. The tines are supported in working position on a bearer bar 8, the height of which is adjustable.
