Acetylene lamps. - A pillar - shaped acetylene lamp adapted to float on or stand in water comprises a cylindrical reeeptacle a open at the bottom and adapted to removably contain a perforated cage h h containing calcium carbide or a container charged with dissolved acetylene. The cage h may be held in position by means of a pin and the lower part of the receptacle a may be weighted by a ring k. The upper part a of the receptacle forms a gas chamber and may be surrounded by an annular air chamber b having an open or closed bottom. Acetylene gas is generated under pressure and passes up a pipe d and down a surrounding tube e and bubbles through water in a cylindrical washing chamber c. It then passes up a pipe f and through a stop-cock j<1> to a burner g which may be enclosed in a glass or other globe.
