Abstract

291,216. Large, A. L. May 14, 1927. Addition to 269,969. Plug couplings.-The thermal cut-out of the parent Specification is improved or modified by the provision of means which prevent the connection of the two parts 1, 7 of the coupling if the safety capsule 12 has not been inserted or if the capsule has been inserted the wrong way round. For this purpose the detachable portion 1 of the coupling has fixed to it a pin 4 which is adapted to enter the open left hand end of the capsule 12 but which, if the capsule is the wrong way round, encounters its closed end 13. If the capsule 12 is absent altogether the pin 4 will encounter a spring pressed plunger 16 and so prevent connection. To insert the capsule into its hole in the part 7, an instrument (Figs. 3 and 4 not shown) adapted to depress the plunger 16 during insertion, may be used. In operation, when the solder connecting the tube 12 to its end piece 13 melts the spring 15 presses the tube 12 to the left and with it the part 1 of the coupling. The Provisional Specification states that the part 7 of the coupling may be connected to an immersion heater of the kind described in Specification 197,982, [Class 39 (iii), Heating by electricity].
