Abstract
290,932. Rocha, E. M. Dec. 23, 1927. Man-traps.-A hopper-like opening 12 closed by a trap-door 5 is made in front of the usual openings 7, 8, for the tellers &c. of a bank or similar building. The opening leads to a vertical passage 13 beneath which is placed a receptacle 14 having a hinged cover 16 that may be held in an open position by a latch 21. A vertically movable ring 19 maintains the receptacle in alignment with the passage 13. Should an attempt be made to rob the teller he can operate a switch 36 by his knee, closing a circuit that causes the latch 11 holding up the trap door to be withdrawn, thus precipitating any one standing on the trap door into the receptacle 14. At the same time a second circuit permits a shield 41 to fall, closing the windows 7, 8. The bottom of the receptacle 14 is provided with a false bottom 23 which on being depressed closes an electrical circuit that releases the latch holding the lid of the receptacle open, permitting the lid to fall and to be automatically latched. The closed receptacle can be removed after lifting the ring 19.
