Apparatus for passing articles through a wall opening comprises a drawer 1, 2 having a hinged bottom 16 and sliding on rollers 7 from a position in which space 2 is open on the outside of the wall as in Fig. 5 to a position where it is open on the inside of the wall as in Fig. 1, and means for automatically emptying the drawer on the inside, the drawer being movable from the inside to the outside by actuation of outside release means, although a clerk may actuate a selector means whereby the drawer movement may be controlled from inside or outside. During the day when a clerk is on the inside, a customer operates a key switch so that an electric motor via gears 12, 13, 14 moves the drawer outside, a slot 6 in the drawer eventually engaging a pin 21 to pull a panel 19 off a counter 10 and cover a drawer contents extraction opening. On extracting the key, the drawer moves inside, shifts panel 19 and the clerk removes the contents through the opening. At night a safe is moved below counter 10 so that an abutment 29, Fig. 5, rotates levers 27, 19 whereby a bar 25 locks panel 19 over the extraction opening and lifts pins 21 out of the path of the drawer. On inward movement of the drawer, a solenoid, or a lever 30 engaging safe abutment 31, releases catch 18 and opens the drawer bottom 16 to discharge the contents through a hole in the top of the safe.
